Want Went Well and Even Better Ifs

W.W.W

I think in the planning section me and Jordan did well to get the lyrics and location matching and worked well with the dance choreographer to get them prompt on the lyrics.

On the day me and Jordan was equipped with a stereo and had the CD there with the song on.

we also cued the music well and was always prepared at the right point.

My roles and responibiltys on the day, and what i learned

My responsibility for the task was sound, I was working alongside Jordan F. when I was doing sound I had to watch the in the sun clip several times, first of all we printed out a copy or the lyrics and got a storyboard also printed out. We had to match the lyrics with the location on screen and also with the dance moves of the lead singer in the music video. So we had to work with the dance choreographer to make sure they also knew what they would be doing at certain parts of the song. We struggled at first to match the screen shots with the lyrics but we managed to work it out correctly. We had to contact Mr.Winters by email to ask him to burn the song from the computer on to a CD so on the day we can put it in a stereo and play it. On the day we had to be aware of how well the lip syncing was being done a prompt the lead singer to keep in time and remember even when doing the dance moves she had to lip sing along. We had to make sure we was at the right point on the song and make sure we cued in correctly because otherwise we would have wasted time playing it from the wrong part. I learned a few things when doing this task and I learned I had a big part to play in video and that everything was going right. I think the hardest thing was making sure the lyrics match the location they was in because some lyrics was started in one location and continue as a shot cuts and changes. On the day I think everything went well and there were no complaints about mine and Jordan’s work everyone seemed impressed on how quick we cued the music. Also on the day we had to take turns in camera work i helped out with one of the tracking shots as you can see in one of the images below.

Assessment 29/06/11 SJA

WWW
Well done Darren! Great to see that you have completed the 3 posts, and they are all visual!
I thought your 'In the Sun' lip synch task was really good - you seem really comfortable in front of the camera and you give a good performance.
Good understanding of the need to vary shots and to think about interesting framing.
Your written analysis shows that you are really thinking carefully about the things we have explored in class, and taking all suggestions on board. You clearly have a good understanding of what makes a good music video.

EBI
Some of the shots in your 'In the Sun' lip synch were a little unsteady - use a tripod
Your post on 'What makes a good music video' shows you are thinking carefully about what works, but avoid filling your blog with loads of videos straight from You Tube. I don't think any examiner would sit there and watch them all to see what you are referring to. SHOW them - take screen grabs only, or select only a few seconds from your sample videos to really demonstrate the ideas / techniques and points you have mentioned in your written comments.
One little thing - just check your spelling (maybe type in WORD and then check and copy over - that's what I always do with my emails as I'm not a strong speller!)

Overall, your blog is looking really good so far Darren. Think about my EBI suggestions, and please try really hard to keep on top of your blog this year.

She and Him 'In the sun' task

WWW:

We have tried to put in alot of shots to try to stop veiwer fatigue for most of the video i think we did it well,we tried to do dancing and different things to keep the viewers intrested anjd mke the video enjoyable.
The lip syncing was difficult to do for this songs getting the timing right but i think we did really well and most of time it was very accurate.
EBI:

We made a mistake when filming which was we didnt have enough clips to play about with, and also the clips wasnt long enough,so we tried our best to fill out the whole song with other cut aways.
We also could have done better framing and have a few more back grounds in our video this would have improved viewers fatigue and made it look better when watching.

chipmunk superstar video anylisis

Chipmunk- Superstar

The reason I really like this video is because of its simplicity, it hasn’t got a lot of choreographed dancers, its just the artist. I really like the way they edited it and put in old photos and video’s of the artist it makes the song better as it shows how far he has come as an artist. This was a great way to really show the meaning of the song, he didn’t need to have loads of women or cars or clubs to make it exciting. The locations was also jus very normal not on a beach or in a big city. The main loaction I like is on the top of the building because of the things you see in the framed well the sky and buildings int the background it goes with the meaning of the song the fact he has made it and he now feels he is on top. When I watched this video I didn’t get bored of it because the cut away’s to old videos and photos really caught my interest as it gives you a slight insight to where he has come from and the fact he was just an ordinary school kid.

my first video

WWW.

The main thing I found that my group did well in our first lip synching task is our performance, as we was all very confident and none of us held back or was camera shy which helps to make sure that viewers do not get musical fatigue. As with are video you can see we are dancing and moving about really trying to get into the role of the original artist of the song,

Also I think the editing is done really good we tried to make sure we didn’t stay on the same shot for to long, even if it was just a minor cut to something else it is entertaining for the viewers.we also looked at other video’s and saw the way that the whole song is not lip synced so we tried to put in cut away shots of other things to improve our video.

Me and my group tried to find a nice location for things such as framing but its hard to match a location with the song we was doing but I think me and my group did well and we didn’t jus have a steady camera we had tilt shots and also some tracking shots.

EBI.

The main thing I first noticed when watching my video back is that the lip synching could have been improved as a few times the mouth movement didn’t match the words that you could hear, also I think the video could of maybe been a bit longer as it is only 2:00 its quite short. If the video is longer it would have made the task more difficult and more of a challenge when it comes to viewers fatigue.

The video would have been even better if the quality of camera was improved as we shot it on a mobile phone sometimes it doesn’t pick up all the mouth movement properly which made lip syncing just that bit more difficult.

For me and my groups first attempt I think it is a good video, after watching it back we noticed what can make the video better and also make sure we keep what went well and still improve on it. So when it comes to the main project we can look back on this video as a starting point.
